Custom leaf spring

Leaf springs

The leaf spring is a robust and flexible spring that absorbs and returns forces by means of bending. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, from vehicles and agricultural machinery to industrial installations.

About our leaf springs

Leaf springs offer a reliable and durable solution for applications requiring resilience, support or damping. They are manufactured from spring band or strip material and assembled in a curved shape. The clever combination of geometry and resilient material creates a powerful damping effect.

Depending on the application, a leaf spring can provide support, absorb forces or function as a clamping spring. In some systems, leaf springs or clamping springs are deliberately chosen, depending on the required flexibility, force build-up and available installation space.

Application of leaf springs

In mechanical engineering and industrial automation, leaf springs absorb shocks and provide constant contact pressure, resulting in greater stability and reduced wear on moving parts. Leaf springs also play a crucial role in security systems by providing constant tension, without any interruptions or loss of performance.

Furthermore, leaf springs are finding their way into precision applications beyond heavy industry. From medical technology to consumer electronics: in smartphones, leaf springs ensure a consistent, tactile click with every button press, and in operating theatres, they contribute to the precision and reliability of surgical instruments.

When a system wears out or needs to be modified, a leaf spring can be replaced or custom-manufactured to fully restore functionality. Thanks to their wear resistance, corrosion resistance and customisation options, our leaf springs offer reliable solutions for a wide range of applications.

Technical specifications and capabilities

Leaf springs provide contact pressure, positioning, and shock absorption in applications where space and precision go hand in hand: from laboratory equipment and measurement systems to robust industrial machinery. We produce flat springs from high-quality strip and sheet material, ISO 9001 compliant, and fully tailored to your specifications.

Free Sizing & Configuration

From our production facility in Haaksbergen, we offer complete design freedom, from single prototypes to large series:

  • Thickness Range: From 0.05 mm for precision mechanical applications to 5.00 mm for robust industrial constructions
  • Prototypes and complex shapes: Laser cutting, punching, or wire EDM for precise geometries in small quantities.
  • Series Production: Stamping and bending with customer-specific tooling for consistent reproducibility in large volumes.
  • Feasibility Check: Already at the quotation stage, we calculate feasibility and achievable radii. This allows us to advise you directly on the most optimal leaf spring.

Finishing & Specialization: Based on the dynamic load and desired lifespan, we recommend the appropriate post-treatment:

  • Heat Treatment: Relieves material stress and enables the spring to achieve its spring action.
  • Surface Treatment (on request): From galvanizing and passivation to specialized coatings for corrosion resistance in demanding environments.

Material Selection & Environmental Factors

The right material determines how your leaf spring performs under load. We advise based on environment, hygiene requirements, and temperature:

Type: Spring steel
Material number: 1.1248 (C75)
Characteristics: High elasticity and wear resistance. Standard choice for dynamically loaded applications in mechanical engineering and the energy sector.

Type: Stainless steel
Material number: 1.4310 / 1.4301 / 1.4401
Characteristics: Excellent corrosion resistance; ideal for the medical and food industries.

Type: Specials
Material number: Copper / Phosphor Bronze
Features: Excellent electrical conductivity and dimensional stability for electronics and measurement systems.

Is your material not listed, or are you unsure about the right choice for your application? Contact our team; we're happy to help you find the right solution.

Co-Engineering: Optimize Your Leaf Spring

Our engineers collaborate from the initial design. We align material properties, free length, width, and thickness to ensure the spring performs exactly as you wish, for both single units and larger production runs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a leaf spring and what is it used for?

A leaf spring is a flat or curved piece of spring steel that bends under load. Leaf springs are used where progressive spring action, shock absorption or assurance is required, such as in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and the mobility sector.

What material are leaf springs made of?

Leaf springs are made of spring steel, stainless steel (301, 304, 316), phosphor bronze, brass, tailored to the desired spring properties, corrosion resistance and ambient temperature.

Are there standard leaf spring sizes available?

Leaf springs are almost always custom-made, because the geometry depends a lot on the application. We quickly produce small and medium series on demand.

What is the difference between a leaf spring and a disc spring?

A leaf spring bends over a flat or curved surface, while a disc spring provides axial force through compression. Leaf springs are often suitable for lateral or tangential loads.

Do you provide customized leaf springs?

Yes, we produce custom leaf springs based on drawings, samples or specifications. Complex shapes with recesses or bends are also possible via bending and stamping. In addition, we can laser cut leaf springs for specific dimensions.
