They are available in various designs, such as standard gas springs, stainless steel gas springs for corrosion-sensitive environments and variants with damping or locking, so that they meet a wide range of technical requirements.

Applications of gas springs

From construction to machines

In building and construction, gas springs make it easier to open and close hatches, covers and windows. They reduce physical strain and improve safety. In ventilation and air-conditioning systems, they ensure controlled, smooth movements when opening ventilation openings. In mechanical engineering and tooling too, gas springs contribute to the efficient operation of heavy components, which simplifies operation. In such designs, gas springs are often combined with compression springs or bespoke wire forms, for example for positioning and securing within the same machine cover or control panel.

In addition, bespoke gas springs are widely used in the mobility sector and in medical equipment, where reliability and consistent performance are crucial. Gas springs provide a uniform, adjustable force throughout the entire stroke: from compact precision assemblies with a cylinder diameter from 4 mm to heavy-duty industrial versions. We fully customize gas springs based on your force specifications, installation dimensions, and environmental requirements.

Six versions, each with its own application

Version: Compression gas springs
Application: Lifting, supporting, positioning
Features:  Most commonly used version. Available with fixed or adjustable force and hydraulic end damping for a shock-free stop. Suitable for machine covers, control panels, and lifting structures.

Version: Extension gas springs
Application:
Controlled retraction, keeping closed
Features: 
Provides force in the pulling direction. Available as standard or fully custom-made.

Version: Lockable gas springs
Application:
 Height-adjustable systems
Features: 
Locks via an integrated valve at any position along the stroke. Suitable for medical equipment and ergonomic systems. Available in rigid and elastic locking versions.

Type: Dynamic gas springs
Application: Motion profile control
Features:  The damping characteristic is adjustable via the cylinder groove, in three configurations: standard, two-stage, and inverted.

Type: Stainless steel gas springs
Application:
Controlled retraction, keeping closed
Features: 
Resistant to moisture, aggressive cleaning agents, and corrosive environments. Available in hydraulic, lockable, and traction versions.

Type: NitroSprings
Application:
 Height-adjustable systems

Powered by compressed air/nitrogen for extremely high forces in a compact size. Stroke length from 6 to 900 mm.

Please note: the force of a gas spring is temperature-sensitive and changes approximately 3.5% per 10°C. Our specialists will gladly calculate this effect for you in outdoor applications.

Selection Guide & Environmental Factors

Four factors are decisive when choosing a gas spring:

  • Force (F1): Determined based on weight, center of gravity, and desired opening angle. We calculate the correct F1 value in Newtons based on your specifications.
  • Stroke Length: The stroke must match the desired travel distance. We supply stroke lengths from 6 to 900 mm, depending on the type.
  • Mounting Position: Piston rod down ensures continuous lubrication of the seals and extends service life. We advise on the optimal mounting position for your construction.
  • Environmental Factors: Temperature, humidity, and corrosion risk determine the choice of design. If in doubt, please contact us; we're happy to help you find a solution.
